Local author Ben Emory will share from his recent book, Sailor for the Wild: On Maine, Conservation and Boats, at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday May 16th at 7:00 PM. Inspired by Maine’s extraordinary land- and sea-scapes, Emory recounts a lifetime of intertwined adventures on the water, and in professional and volunteer land conservation work. Shining through is the joy of Maine ocean and landscape, fascination with good boats, dedication to conservation, and observations about a changing world.

Ben Emory of Brooklin and Bar Harbor has decades of conservation and boating experience. For many years he served on the Blue Hill Heritage Trust board as well as other land trust boards. He has been the executive director of Maine Coast Heritage Trust, a Maine Representative of The Conservation Fund, a founder of the Land Trust Alliance, and a member of the Land for Maine’s Future Board. He currently serves on the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission. He is a member of the Cruising Club of America and a former commodore of Brooklin’s Center Harbor Yacht Club. A former Navy destroyer officer, Ben graduated from Harvard and earned his MBA from Dartmouth.
