Blue Hill Library Conservation Kids: On the Shore

7/11/2019
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Blue Hill Public Library
5 Parker Point Rd, Blue Hill, ME, 04614

Kids 5 years and up are invited to discover the fascinating world of Blue Hill Bay on Thursday, July 11th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, where seaweed, mussels, barnacles and many other creatures have important roles to play. Beginning at Shaw Institute, marine biologists will show kids how the creatures in the bay all depend on one another. Participants will have the chance to explore and interact with organisms from the bay.

Weather permitting, the group will take a walk to Blue Hill Park to observe these wild creatures in their natural habitat and learn how to become stewards of the shoreline. Kids younger than 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver 12+ years old. Participants should wear close-toed shoes that can get muddy, and bring weather-appropriate attire and drinking water. The event is free but space is limited so registration is required and can be done using the library’s calendar at www.bhpl.net or by calling the library at 374-5515.

This program is made possible by a grant from the Davis Conservation Foundation. “Conservation Kids” projects are intended to engage youth to positively impact the environment and community on the Blue Hill Peninsula while teaching them skills to help preserve the natural world around them and showing them proactive steps they can take to make a difference!
