Community Forum: From Yeoman Farmers to a Global Food System

The Blue Hill Public Library’s Community Forum series continues on Wednesday October 9th at 6:30 PM. The topic will be: “From Yeoman Farmers to a Global Food System: Sustainable Agriculture and Emerging Community Coalitions in Maine.”
This program will provide historical context on farming, and discuss the current economics of small-scale organic farming and the corporate food industry, the power of food advertising, and sustainable farming while addressing climate change on the Blue Hill Peninsula. Audience questions and discussion are encouraged.

Presenters will be Heather Retberg, of the Halcyon Grange and the Maine Organic Farmers & Growers Association; Florence Reed, of Sustainable Harvest International; and Eliot Coleman, Harborside farmer and author. The program will be moderated by Dr. Gregory Bush, President of Nature Links and retired History Professor from the University of Miami.
